Funding

Saferparks is a California non-profit corporation, tax exempt under IRS Section 501(c)(3) as a public charity. Our mission is funded entirely through grants and private contributions from our supporters. Your tax-deductible donation will help ensure safer thrills for all!

Corporate Officers

The Saferparks corporate officers serve as volunteers, drawing no salary or other financial compensation. They are inspired to action on behalf of thrill-loving children everywhere.

Kathy Fackler, Founder and President

  • Kathy Fackler founded Saferparks in 2000, two years after her 5-year-old son lost part of his foot in a roller coaster accident at an unregulated California theme park. 
  • In 1999, Ms. Fackler helped pass legislation establishing the first public safety program for California's amusement parks.  Ms. Fackler has been the primary advocate for consumer interests throughout rulemaking and implementation phase of California's amusement park regulatory program. She was "honored and commended" for her commitment and endurance by the state senate in 2003.
  • At the federal level, Ms. Fackler advises Congressman Markey on issues related to ride safety and testified at a hearing of the House Subcommittee on Consumer Protection in 2000. 
  • Ms. Fackler serves on the Advisory Board of the Council of Amusement and Recreational Equipment Safety (CARES), an organization of state amusement ride regulatory officials. 
  • Since 2000, Ms. Fackler has served as the primary consumer representative to the ASTM F-24 industry standards committee for amusement rides and devices.
  • Ms. Fackler is a member of the International Consumer Product Health and Safety Organization, an organization committed to resolving health and safety issues related to consumer products manufactured and marketed worldwide.
  • In 2006, Ms. Fackler was invited to address the European Commission's International Workshop on Data Collection. The main objective of the workshop, the first of its kind organized by the European Commission, was to gather all major stakeholders in the field and explore with them available data sources for accidents and injuries related to product and service safety.

  • Mark Fackler has an extensive background in both corporate management and computer technology.
  • In addition to his Saferparks work, Mr. Fackler mentors corporate executives for Vistage, the world's largest CEO membership organization. He also serves as President of TKF, a non-profit dedicated to breaking the cycle of youth violence by empowering kids, saving lives, and teaching peace; and Board President of San Diego Social Venture Partners, a venture philanthropy community foundation.
