Saferparks' 5-Year Plan - Part Two:
Improve Consumer Access to Safety-Critical Information

  • Saferparks works to create a useable, comprehensive system for the collection, analysis, and dissemination of accurate technical and medical information on amusement ride accidents and injuries.

Projects

  • Since 2002, the Saferparks Database has provided easy online access to amusement ride accident reports from a number of state regulatory agencies.
  • In 2004, Saferparks launched an online concept demonstration for a centralized ride registry and data exchange system (RIDES) where detailed technical information on U.S. amusement ride can be collected for use in preventing accidents.
  • In 2005, Saferparks developed a website for the Council of Amusement and Recreational Equipment Safety, an organization of government ride safety officials from the U.S. and Canada. The CARES website provides online access to safety-critical inspection information, such as minimum height limits and NDT requirements.
  • In 2006, Saferparks completed design work and initiated development planning for the "Ride Information Depository and Exchange System (RIDES)", an expanded database and virtual meeting place intended to aid in the prevention of accidents and injuries to patrons, and maximize the efficiency of state regulatory agencies.
