Saferparks' 5-Year Plan - Part One:
Expand Public Safety Regulation to Cover All U.S. Amusement Rides
- Saferparks works to eliminate gaps in regulatory coverage so that consumer rights and safety are protected on all U.S. amusement rides, including rides operated by multinational media companies.
Projects
-
On July 29, 2006, Saferparks posted an outline of proposed National Child Safety Standards for Amusement Rides . The proposal would create uniform protections for children under ten who use amusement rides, and may be implemented through federal, state, or local law. The proposed requirements do not conflict with existing industry standards, but simply expand the risk analysis approach into the area of child safety.
- Saferparks' proposed a National Amusement Ride Safety Plan in August 2005 to establish the first integrated public safety policy for U.S. amusement rides. The proposal combines a small, but carefully-applied, federal solution to address systemic ride safety issues with state/local oversight of ride operations, and a national responsible use statute.
- Saferparks supports Congressman Markey's legislation to repeal the special interest loophole that exempts amusement park rides from all federal safety oversight.
- Saferparks assists CARES, an organization of ride safety officials from regulatory agencies in the United States and Canada that provides online access to safety-critical information and improves inter-agency communication.
- Saferparks represents consumer interests in regulatory matters related to California's amusement park and carnival ride safety programs.
