Top 20 North American Amusement Parks - 2007
- 72% of customers who visit America's top 10 amusement parks - 64 million people - are riding on self-regulated rides. That means no government ride inspections or investigations of serious accidents, not even when a customer dies.
- 56% of customers who visit America's top 20 amusement parks - 69 million people - are riding on self-regulated rides.
- That means more than 21% of U.S. amusement park customers are riding on self-regulated rides. (Here's the math: 69 million riders at self-regulated Top 20 parks divided by 335 million total attendance at U.S. parks equals 21%, a lowball figure that assumes no parks outside the top 20 are self-regulated.)
- Disney, Universal/NBC, and Anheuser-Busch benefit most from the regulatory exemptions granted by Congress and state legislatures. 75% of Disney parks, 75% of Universal Studios parks, and 56% of Busch parks are self-regulated, compared with 7% for Cedar Fair parks and 15% for Six Flags parks.
